Italian baritone returns to Landestheater Linz with the title role in Rigoletto.

Landestheater Linz

After his exciting debut in title role of Falstaff last year in Linz, Italian baritone Federico Longhi gets re-invited in Landestheater, this time – as Rigoletto.

Federico Longhi has started his career in a very young age: first with the roles of a lyric and characteristic baritone. But his vocal, as well as artistic development in last few years opened his path to the great Verdi roles.

His way to Verdi started with his rediscovery by Maestro Riccardo Muti: with this living legend of Italian opera in 2015 Longhi debuted firstly as Ford in Falstaff. Soon to be followed with the title role in Rigoletto in Teatro Filarmonico of Verona. Just a month ago Federico Longhi made another great debut – again under the baton of Maestro Riccardo Muti – his Amonasro in Aida in Ravenna was a great surprise and at the same time great success too!

But let’s go back to Falstaff. Federico Longhi’s transition from Ford to Falstaff happened in Linz. It was a significant step. The press gave a very high evaluation to Longhi’s Falstaff in Austria: it was a highly convincing debut, where Italian baritone conquered the public with his rich and noble voice, prepared to overcome any technical difficulties: refined, where need be and full and strong in its emotional breakouts. “Federico Longhi gave a real value to the production!” (Neue Merker)

After this success, return of the Italian baritone in Austria was expected. And Rigoletto is of course the best title, since lately he becomes very much requested for this role all over the Europe: this year Federico Longhi also performed it in Nice, France with enormous success. Both in Italy and France his Rigoletto made a great impression with his sensibility, as a tragic loving father, desperately hiding his treasure, his angel, beloved daughter from the vulgar world, its brutality and falseness!

Linz production of Rigoletto promises to be very interesting, involving some accents of modern politics. Production opens on the 4th of November.
