ISTANBUL: the director Renato Bonajuto returns to the State Opera with Falstaff

  • 31/03/2018

Since it was established, Istanbul State Opera and Ballet achieved to have an extensive repertory delivering various colourful and eye-catching productions. Over the years, we have performed operas from all sorts of repertory including French, German, Russian and even English, but notably Italian. And there is a great opera composer who is not only the favourite of opera lovers but also a symbol of the whole Italy’s hopes and dreams and moreover, his operas are regularly performed in every season at the opera houses in Turkey: Giuseppe Verdi. Verdi’s late-period opera and also his last work, the comic masterpiece “Falstaff”, is another Shakespeare-Verdi collaboration! It might be because of its difficulty to play and sing, “Falstaff” has not been dared to be performed in Istanbul to date. But now, the grandeur of our artists -either as quality or quantity- encouraged us to add this iconic opera work to our repertory.
